How to Choose Glasses Frame For a Child

Unfortunately, visual disorders and pathologies, such as astigmatism, strabismus, myopia, hypermetropia, are common for many children nowadays. According to many children, the necessity to wear eye glasses can become a real torture. However, it is vital to protect and correct kids’ sight. That is why it is a major challenge for all parents when it comes to selection of the frame for the glasses, which will be comfortable, durable and fancied by the kid.

So, there are several main rules for selection of eye frame for children:

  1. The spectacles frame must be comfortable for the child, in the first place. The glasses should be located lower than the eyebrows, while their bottom part should not lay on the cheeks when the child is smiling. The frame should not be wider or narrower than the face. The frame bridge should fit tightly to the nose bridge.
  2. Pay attention to the temple tips; they should not graze, press or tuck into the ears In order to avoid such unpleasant things, many eye frames intended for children are equipped with soft covers which are put on the temple tips.
  3. The frame material should be durable. The frame can be made from plastic, stainless steel or titan. In addition, there are silicone frames, developed especially for infants, which are the safest frame, from the point of view of potential injuries. It should be mentioned that certain vision pathologies require specific frame. For example, glasses prescribed for astigmatism have specific, cylindrical or anamorphic lens, which in its turn require full-rim frame.
  4.  The child should like the frame! If your child considers his glasses ugly, it could result in decrease of self-esteem, or he/she could simply refuse to wear glasses, leading to further deterioration of vision.
